Must stay productive

Today, I experienced my third day in a row with visual aura causing a migraine. I informed my safety and human resources departments, who both offered help. When I went to tell my supervisor, she told me that women experience this all the time and I need to learn to deal with it. FML

As a woman, I can honestly say I’ve NEVER dealt with this!

I get them, too. I learned as soon as the aura appears, take a migraine medicine (I tend to take ibuprofen with a small dose of caffeine) to head off the following pain. It can take 15-30 minutes for the aura to go away and best thing to do is to turn away from any screen or flashing shadows (fan blade reflection sets mine off, sometimes) and close your eyes for a bit. If you work in a space where there is physical stuff going on, go to another space so you can safely close your eyes. I'm sorry the sup is a jerk. Unfortunately, there isn't really that much that can be done about them. =/ Do get an assessment, though, to make sure there is nothing untoward going on.
