Today, my mom told me she wasn't an alcoholic because she doesn't get "black out drunk" daily. She only gets drunk enough to slur her words and reek of alcohol daily, so it's okay. FML

I'm the child of two alcoholics and yes, they do stuff like that. I was about 13 was my father told me, "If you ever have to come home drunk, don't come home." He had already consumed two of his four daily beers when he said that. Do what you have to in order to take care of yourself. Getting drunk off your butt is not taking care of yourself. You might consider Al-Anon. I went for a while in the '80s. Some chapters and meetings are better than others.
