wait what?
Has anyone noticed that the same people who promote abstinence are the same people who think abortion should be made illegeal? The more you promote abstenince, the less likely the kid is going to be prepared for possible sexual activity. The less prepared the kid is, the more likely the kid is going to get pregnant. Makes no sense. Anyways, YDI
#122 Damn right!
Haha. Ok, so I agree that abstinance doesn't work; however, we don't fully know the situation that the OP was in to give her speech on abstinance. She says she "had to", so perhaps she doesn't agree with it either, but it is part of the schoolboard's curriculum. I say both FYL and YDI, because you DID miss a few buttons on your shirt. To UrLifeDoesntSuck: I'm not an English Major or anything (I've just graduated from highschool), but different school systems use different ways of formal writing. For example, where I live (Canada), we use MLA format (Modern Language Association) for all English assignments, meaning no contractions are allowed, as well as everything is written in objective third person. So HeyitsPheddy was right that contractions are not condisered to be a part of formal writing in some styles. You give two examples of different styles that allow for contractions, but next time check out the other styles too. And like everyone else said, it's a forum, people are too lazy to write with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation all the time. And I'm also aware that I'm not using "proper" English.
POIDH And #122 is spot on with "The more you promote abstenince, the less likely the kid is going to be prepared for possible sexual activity. The less prepared the kid is, the more likely the kid is going to get pregnant." Promote real sex education, not dumb sex prevention because newsflash: sex? It happens.

The fact that you gave a 3 hour speech on abstinence means you deserved it. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
More teachers should use this method.
