Today, I went to a Speed Dating event because the apps just ain’t doing it for me. After a while of talking, the first guy I sat with told me, “You are way too out of shape to have high standards and expectations.” I got up and left the place in tears. While that’s a needlessly cruel way to put it - I assume there was some truth in the message. … I suggest back off on what isn’t working - Dating apps and mixers like this. Instead play the long game. Find an interest that you can enjoy and that the person you want to find would enjoy too. Get together with others with shared interests. Be yourself, but try to be a pleasant version of yourself. Put aside your expectations and just meet people. You will eventually meet someone who sees you for you and you will see them for who they are. … My daughter met her current husband over Dungeons and Dragons.

Preferences regarding looks can get you in the door but it’s not enough to sustain a long lasting healthy relationship. If your partner gets in an accident and gets disfugured or gives birth and their body changes. What? You’re gonna leave them for someone who fits your “preferences”? It’s basically UberEats for sex. Like the below commenter said, go to shared interest events. Nothing he said couldn't have been applied to men as well, so your assumption to call it misogynist is baseless. As for preferences regarding looks : You seem to believe that physical attraction is a conscious decision, as opposed to a subconscious, non-controllable process. Is that really your experience, or just wishful thinking? He was rude, yes. Anything else you assume is pure speculation.
