Today, it’s been a semester since I came to Shanghai to study and my Chinese girlfriend nicely offered me a pear after a long exam. I cut the fruit to share it with her. When I saw her burst in tears, I understood that it was a way to announce a breakup in China. FML

I know that’s a thing but I think people nowadays under the age of 35 especially city people don’t take that one so seriously anymore. Unless she’s from the boonies and just showed up in Shanghai. All my Shanghainese friends would never react that adversely especially if they know the other person is a foreigner.
