Today, as I was about to go to bed, the lid came off a brand new bottle of laundry detergent and it toppled down my carpeted basement steps. 3 hours, 2 dozen microfiber cloths, and a bucket of water later and my steps are still full of suds. I went to bed at 3 am and my 10 week old was up at 4 am. FML

I feel you op when my lo was about that age I found a spilled bottle of detergent at 2 am almost a whole large jug on the floor. Took me an hour to clean up most of it. With a baby that’s up every few hours.

OP here... the carpet has never been cleaner haha. Actually I found out laundry detergent is great for use with a carpet shampooer.

Well, laundry and carpet are both fabrics, so I suppose that does make sense. I'll have to keep that in mind, see if the laundry detergent is cheaper than carpet cleaner. Your mishap might help save people money.

I think you need a carpet cleaner fast! Get the type that is meant for spot cleaning and just use water (you got enough soap!) And you don't want anyone falling down the stairs! You might be happier with pod style detergent! My fiancé switched to pods after his cat counter surfed and knocked over a nearly full bottle of tide, the carpet had to be ripped up and tossed.

OP here... I got a lot of it up with water and a shop vac that night then used the carpet cleaner to get the rest. I thought detergent would be to much suds for the carpet cleaner but I read online people use detergent in their carpet cleaners. Thank God I have a good one!

OP here... I used the detergent in the sink to soak my son’s soiled onesie. I was putting the jug on the basement step to take down on the next trip to the basement and the lid came off in my hand.

You do realize there’s many possible reasons why it wasn’t in a cupboard, right? Or are you supposed to buy things like this, then put it in a cupboard and never take it out again?

Oh woe is me, my life is so much worse because I have a child. Spilling the detergent would be an fml in itself you didn't have to add that you have a baby. If the child is that much of an inconvenience give it up to someone who doesn't see it that way.

WTF did you use microfiber cloths? Those are for cleaning delicate screens, they aren't for mopping up huge amounts of liquid. All you did with those was agitate the soap and rub it into the carpet more to make suds. Rent a carpet cleaner/vacume from teh store, run it a few times with just water and you'll be fine.

The microfiber cloths were used because I was in a panic and had nothing else to sop up the mess. I didn’t scrub with them I just used them to absorb the detergent along with other hand towels I had. It didn’t do too bad of a job. I’m not an idiot lol.
