What's your alternative, dear? That he stay in the house doing light home repair and housekeeping and letting his brain and body rot? Go shopping? Play card games and do crossword? Here's the bottom line: He needs *purpose*, or he will die soon. Many retirees simply waste away and expire if they don't stay engaged with meaningful activity. If you're going to move out over your misunderstanding, ignorance, or neglect of this basic fact, then he will be alive to miss you, stay engaged anyway, and probably outlive you. Not the best plan ever, hon.
Can't imagine why he'd want to spend time away from someone who argues at him about hobbies and volunteering. And how is that an emotional slap? "Yet another argument." He's tired of hearing you whine.
