Today, my estranged mother texted me saying, "Gran died, LOL." My grandmother and I were fairly close, so I was shocked and disgusted. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and asked if she knew what "LOL" meant. She did. FML

Today, I called my mom to let her know that my father, her ex-husband, suffered a series of mini strokes. Her reply was essentially, "Oh that sucks. Are you still taking your grandmother to lunch sometime this week?" Dad lives halfway across the country. FML

Was it her mother that died or her mother-in-law? Some MIL's are so horrible, their deaths are welcomed by many. If she's "estranged," it means that she hates the OP, and there's a pretty good chance that she also hated the deceased. Imagine how you'd feel telling Goering that Hitler died (p.s. mother-in-law is an anagram of "woman Hitler.")

One my mom in her 60s and my aunt in their 70s know what it means and if they didnt they would ask. Two even if she thought it was lots of love who sends something like that in a text? So she is still a bitch.
