You better shape up

Today, I auditioned for the role of Rizzo in a local production of Grease. The director told me I wasn't tough enough, and that my persona too sweet and childlike for the part. I asked if I should instead try out to play Sandy. He replied, "I was being nice. Honestly, you're ugly and can't act." FML

If you seriously enjoy acting, don't let this completely discourage you. There's always a role for every persona, eventually. Keep working at it!

Did you inform him that he should audition for biggest jackass after? I sure hope so.

I know it sucks, but it's the director's job to cast the play so it can be as successful as possible. I agree that he should have been nice about it, but it's not like the school play where everyone who tried out gets in; he picks who he thinks will be able to best perform the roles and trims off the excess.

I agree that he does need to pick people who will make it a success, but you don't just say something like that.

At least you don't feel like a defective typewriter from having a skipped period! ***I've seen this movie waaaayyy too many times and remember details such as these! :P Someone shoot me when "Summer Nights" starts to get sung!

Tell me about it, stud. *cocks pistol* I hope you were just joking. At least, you weren't obsessed with Grease 2!

Michelle Pfeiffer! Hell yes! I love "Grease 2". I can't eat a hamburger without ketchup on it because of that movie!

That's when you ask him if you can act as a Quasimodo, as Cinderella's ugly step sister, as a horse, or as a tree.

Don't worry baby, there are lots of ugly actors in the world.

Boy that was down right mean, and nasty! If I was you I would report him , and see if he still has a job , or at least say he's sorry . That's no way to talk to a person . For god sake where are people manners? So sorry .

He should have just told you to either be backstage crew, or politely tell you that you need more practice.

What if it is actually true, though, that OP is ugly and cannot act. Rude to tell her that way, but some people truly can't do it and don't want to come to terms with it either.

Well this good cause is encouragement for you to grow and one day he will regret saying that cause you will prove the douchebag wrong!!

That must suck if he was speaking the truth, but there's so many movies where less attractive, especially overweigh people are used. If they can deal with it, hopefully you can too. I used to act at a small theatre as young, before the scenefright became too much. They weren't all models either :)
