Today, my boyfriend went to ask my dad for my hand in marriage. All I could make out from the door was mumbling, until profanities started flying. My boyfriend shouted "well she's a SINGLE bitch now!" and stormed out of the house. My dad still refuses to tell me what happened in there. FML

It has nothing to do with respect but rather with anger. It doesn't matter how much you respect someone, if you get really angry with them words will fly if you're the vocal type.

Sounds to me like he's made up some bullshit story about you cheating or something equally bad to stop him marrying you. If that IS the case, I'm appalled that your boyfriend didn't come to you for an explanation rather than taking it for granted and jumping to conclusions. Maybe you've had a lucky escape there. Try to find out what happened.

Although the boyfriend's statement was completely unnecessary, none of us have all the facts about what happened... It could all be a big joke so the proposal will be a huge surprise or it could have just turned out really bad in there and tempers flared.

everyone is plaxing blame on the boyfriend who knows what the dad could have said, maybe the boyfriend was trying to make the dad feel like shit for something he said or the way he was acting
