I actually doubt the parents were "expecting it," because iirc Harvard delivered its Law School verdicts some time ago. For the OP to have gotten in now, they were probably initially deferred. The FML also reads as if s/he told the parents during dinner, which is why the reaction was expected to be better.

Agree with #5. Would probably have won more sympathy without that awful line. "Prestigious right?" just makes you sound like a pompous ass.
