Today, I finally got my car back from the shop. Even though it said it had an "engine system malfunction", the mechanic says everything is fine. It took more than a week to tell me nothing is wrong with my car. FML

Buy an OBD2 code reader so that you can find out what's wrong yourself before taking it to a mechanic. That way you'll know if you're wasting your time or being screwed over.

As some one who’s has had a car written off due to an mechanics shitty work, and have had other major failures on other cars, including brakes failing within hours of safety inspection, then being told there is nothing wrong with the car, I’d say get a second opinion. The check engine light shouldn’t come on if there is no issue.

Today, I'm recovering from a fall down the basement steps. I was carrying a casserole down to the fridge we have in the basement. I tripped, crashed at the bottom and broke my arm. Our dog came running down to investigate, completely ignored me, and just started eating the casserole off the floor. FML
