Smash the patriarchy

Today, I explained to my teenage daughter that enough was enough and she needed to start shaving her armpits again, stating it was unladylike and unsanitary. Her only response was, "If it's so unsanitary, why don't you make my brother do it?" I give up. FML

Cripes. You know that humans evolved without shaving their pits. Unsanitary? Prove it. Unladylike? Most cultures' women don't shave their pits. Get over yourself.

Queue the follow-up: "My daughter cut off all contact with me and all I wanted was what I thought was best for her."

Your internalized misogyny is unsanitary. Thank goodness your daughter has better sense!

When the world wars killed a huge proportion of the men, Gillette saw their profits tank. So they started an advertising campaign to sell razors to women. That's where the whole 'body hair is unhygienic and unladylike' started. You've been spouting ancient marketing crap like it's gospel and shaming your daughter for just freely being herself. Stop it. It's bad parenting, sexist and bullshit. Grow up.

Your daughter is right. Nothing wrong with girls or women choosing to not shave their armpits. It's not in the least bit unsanitary and actually helps with perspiration. And screw this "unladylike" BS -- it ain't the 50s anymore

YDI! She is a teenage girl, has her whole life in front of her and can be anything she wants to be. Why would you try to make her self conscious? Don't you think women have enough negative body shaming going on,without you adding more pressure?

Try being a supportive father instead of a dismissive asshole. Asshole.

I mean, it's her choice, and many women in other parts of the world don't shave, but I can't fathom why a woman would want harry pits... or any other part that isn't her head. (shudder)
