Today, at 11 weeks pregnant, I excitedly told my best friend that my baby now has fingernails. Her response was, "You're beginning to sound like a pro-life bumper sticker." FML

I get it, you're excited for baby. One thing you'll find becoming a mom is you'll lose some friends and gain other friends.

Pregnant women talk about being pregnant. So do the fathers (assuming they're proud fathers). I'm sure I annoyed the living **** out of everyone around me when my wife was pregnant (both times). And now that the baby is a month old, all those people who were annoyed just want to see the baby pictures. You should just tell your "friend" to be happy for you and share in your excitement.

The response suggests to me that maybe that remark about fingernails wasn't the beginning of a conversation. She's a jerk for telling you that, but it also could be a signal to tone it down. I can't really make that call since I don't know you.

Whether she's annoyed by you talking about the baby or not, she could be nicer about it. Having a child is an exciting and scary time. If you can't rely on your friends for support, who can you rely on? Maybe you should find what her deal is. Like, she may have a reason to be snappy about it. Maybe she hates children? Maybe she got pregnant and an abortion, never told anyone, and has bad feelings about it? Maybe you've just been talking about the baby so much that it's driving her crazy? Either way, you should find out why she's seems angered from you saying that, and probably avoid the topic from now on.

When my friend was pregnant, I sat there and listened to the dribble about her baby. She didn't always talk about it, though. Speaking of, I don't really like babies. That's a downside to a friend with a kid.
