Today, while enjoying a nice drive on my motorcycle, I got into an accident. I was lucky to have minor injuries, but my bike was totaled. When I got home, I found the driver of the car that hit me sitting in my living room. My partner introduced us by saying, “and this is my gay lover, grandpa.” FML

At least he can't get out of paying for damages.

Did he hit you in the rear?

I’m too confused!
Was the driver your grandpa? Or was the driver your partner’s gay lover and your grandpa was also there? Or is he referring to you as grandpa?
I think I just confused myself even more!

OP's partner said "this is my gay lover, Grandpa" which means OP the gay lover and OP's partner was speaking to his own grandfather.

Read it again but with "My partner introduced me to him by saying". The confusion stems from OP not clarifying who was being introduced to who.

Considering he said “my partner introduced us” it’s pretty straightforward that OP is the boyfriend, and was hit by his boyfriends grandpa.

OP was Grandpa and the car driver was the gay lover of the Grandson.

I understand it the way that the driver of the car is the grandfather of his partner. Not the best way to meet the family, but whats the problem?

OP is saying that he was in an accident and the person who hit him is the grandpa of the person he's dating. He finds this out when he comes home after the accident and finds the person who wrecked his bike in their living room. His boyfriend then says he's in a relationship with OP to said grandpa/accident causer.

Thank you! I had to draw a graph to figure it out with your help.
Do they really use the term “gay lover?” I thought “partner” or “boyfriend” was more typical.

No problem. And I doubt his boyfriend actually referred to him as his "gay lover". I feel OP was just rephrasing so people in the comments section wouldn't assume he was in a hetero relationship .

So, first impressions weren't great?

At first I read this as the person who hit OP was a person OP's partner was cheating on him with, and OP's partner calls this person grandpa (likely due to an age difference). It just made no sense. Took a few rereads to figure out OP's partner wasn't talking to OP.

I get it now! The driver who hit OP is OP’s boyfriend’s grandpa. It’s got to be the most awkward introduction.

Today, I cannot believe how many times I had to read this in order to figure out what OP was actually saying. FML

Well, I’m sure it’ll be okay. Hopefully his insurance pays everything and hopefully you can both forgive and forget.
