Texas Woman Celebrates Divorce By Blowing Up Wedding Dress (VIDEO)
Countless people get married every year, and 42-45% of marriages still end in divorce. That's about 100 divorces per hour in the USA! Most of them probably involve heartbreak and sadness, but one Texas divorcée has turned her split into an explosive celebration.
Kimberly Santleben-Stiteler, a newly-divorced 43-year-old from Texas, has made the news this week for an explosion that was felt miles away.
Carla Santleben-Newport, Kimberly’s sister, told The Centre Daily Times that "we were all getting messages asking if that was our explosion people were feeling and hearing around the county, up to at least 15 miles away." Talk about going out with a bang!
This wasn't just any old explosion, by the way... There was a 14-year-old wedding gown in that ball of flame! Santleben-Stiteler had considered donating it, but ultimately decided that she needed to burn it.
"I had a lot of advice and suggestions from friends and family, like donating it for premature babies and baptism gowns. However, to me, the dress represented a lie. I wanted to have a divorce party to burn the dress."
Her father and brother-in-law helped her take the burning plan a little further with 20 pounds of target explosives, which she shot from a safe distance of 200 yards. She'd practiced a bit beforehand and easily hit the target (the dress) on the first try.
"On the one hand, it was like being on set of some action movie. The explosion was huge. It was liberating pulling that trigger. It was closure for all of us."
