Content almost refused by staff

Today I had my graduation party. The food there was all on skewers and when I pulled a tomato off and ate it a half inch splinter decided to lodge itself in the top back of my throat. The party went on without me as I had to pull it out in the bathroom with my dad shining a light down my throat, FML

I don't understand how a splinter that big came off a skewer. Did you bite the skewer?

Assuming the food was grilled, the stick probably was burned by the flames or coals in that spot, so when OP was pulling the food into their mouth, the skewer broke off at the weak point.
