The wedding tradition of "something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new" pretty sure I'm missing one... but anyway. It sounds like the bride forgot the something borrowed to finish the tradition so she insulted the OP by saying if she borrowed something from them she doesn't want it to be seen such as underwear.
I think they mean the 'something borrowed' quote.
Demanding to borrow your currently in-use underwear just to fill the "something borrowed" quota is crossing a line of disgusting insanity. If she's desperately concerned about frivolous things like that instead of things actually relevant to the wedding/marriage, then her marriage won't last long.
