As with most approaches, the way you do it counts much more than what you actually say. Don't immediately assume it was an horrible line. Think about your body language, your tone of voice, the way you looked at her, what was going through your mind. Also replay in your head how you reacted to her initial reaction. The way you handle her reaction can be even more important then the approach in the first place and it can easily distinguish you from all the others.

If you're charged, the charges won't stick. All you were doing was asking a police officer to clarify a law for you, which is certainly not illegal.

The sexual harassment law exists because people are babies. Sure there are some extremes that need to be tied down, it's a great law to have for those. But if everyone in the WORLD was jailed for complimenting someone else, no one would like to make new friends...since that's the best way to open dialogue with someone new, by complimenting them.
If this was the way it went down (as per illustrated), saying the word BEAUTIFUL would not be considered sexual harassment. Even asking if it was sexual harassment would not be so. In my opinion, it was a female cop having a bad day.
P.S. Everyone wants to be thought of as sexy. Even at work, hell ESPECIALLY at work. If you think the opposite then you've got a very boring sex life. Even if you are married, when other people consider you sexy, you feel good. That tends to lead to better sex with your spouse, at least, it should!

Hello! She HAD to arrest him if she was going to get his address and phone number without looking like she was both easy and doing personal business during work. By arresting him, she got his contact information, ran a background check on him on the sly, and got to spend some quality time with him all during her working hours. Hot and smart!

sexual harassment isn't a criminal offense for one thing. You can get fired for it, you can get sued for it, but you can't get arrested for it unless you're assaulting someone or pulling out your wiener too. Of course the writer never said he got arrested, the cartoonist only inferred it. And that's why this FML entry sucks.

People commenting are so idiotic. Like they have never tried to pick someone up, Or doing that while they were working. I've been hit on lots of times at my job, and it's not that I mind the fact that they do it while I'm working, that doesn't really make a difference to me. It bothers me that sometimes, they will be so bold!
If someone said something like this to me I would be flattered, and probably give him a chance.

I say the artwork is much closer to that of American comic books than that of Japanese mangas...
Yes I noticed the artist's signed name/posted name is that of a Japanese, but I've read and watched way too much and all different kinds of manga/animes so I'm pretty darn sure of it. (haha~ I have no life :D)
Feel free to argue against me, but I'm simply saying that the drawing is CLOSER to that of a American comic.

Even if the person is a police officer they can't do anything to you for simply talking to them, especially not if you just said something as harmless as a lame pickup line. Well, you put yourself out there and got shot down. No shame in that. Thems the brakes.
Next time just try something a little more subtle. You should have complimented her on how good she looked in her uniform. Something like "it's so nice to see someone really do justice to the uniform. I think it's great to see more women in law enforcement these days." That way you actually seem like a nice guy with progressive views on gender roles in the civil service sector.

Way to make someone feel uncomfortable while on the job.
An on-duty police officer is WORKING. She probably takes her job very seriously, and as well she should. You're an idiot for thinking you are being clever and funny while she is trying to keep an eye on people and make the place safe. She can't exactly take time to stop and chit-chat and write down her number for some stranger when an altercation or incident could occur while she's not paying attention.
Female officers take their responsibilities seriously. Your comment was mocking her authority and is unwelcome while she is on duty. If you were *that* interested, you should have waited until she was on break or off duty.
Guys like you drive me nuts. Don't bother people when they are trying to work.
