Like I said in a comment farther down, it starts to get on my nerves when people always reply to someone losing a job with "get revenge and land another job" because for all we know, this may have been the ONLY job this woman was lucky enough to land after WEEKS or MONTHS of searching (I'm not sure how the economy is in Ireland, but one shouldn't assume it's great just because it isn't the U.S.) The fact that this employers made a bad call on an observation she made doesn't change the fact that it might have been the only job she had available to her. I hope that whatever happens, she manages to find another way to support herself soon.

AND, when applying for the other job, use this experience as a selling point. It's one thing to say you care about food safety because you study it, it's another to say that the reason you're out of a job is because you take food safety so seriously. You can use this crappy experience to help you find a job where you will be happier and not have to worry that you made people sick. sonicmega - there's a difference between staying in a boring/dead-end job that's not your first choice, and working a job where you know you are putting other people's health and safety at risk. Part of the reason we're in this economic crisis (and dealing with H1N1) is because employees didn't want to risk their jobs by speaking out about the sketchy practices. Granted, there should be greater job security so that people don't have to choose between their income and the welfare of others. But if people don't speak out about unjust or unsafe work practices, companies will continue to run this world in a way that hurts you and me.

Better yet, report them to the health department. You better bet the health department will have something to say to them, and you'll have your revenge. And like another person said, you can use your reason for getting fired as a selling point on your next job interview. "I was fired for being concerned about their food handling practices."

Maybe she landed this job BECAUSE of what she was studying, or perhaps it was the one job she could snag in an economic depression that's made getting employed even harder than before. actually, this is how many catering firms and catering departments work so its a pretty valid example of the real world, ive worked in a ton of resteraunts and i did a food safety course as a part of my chef course and some of the things ive seen completely go against all food safety rules but i find it best just to keep my head down and keep working as is

it sounds to me like the OP was telling the customers about it, which in that case...no wonder you were fired. sorry. you can't just go and announce the fine print. everything that a customer buys has some problem with it, but you're trying to sell it so by telling the customer of everything that's wrong with it they're wrecking the sale. i can only assume this, though. if the OP was just mentioning it, then it changes things.
