Today I found out that ALL of my family thinks I never worked. I guess my 14+yrs as a top level Network Engineer Consultant does not count cause it's not a 9-5 job like them. Regardless that I make many times their hourly rates combined. And only have to work a few days a week, if I want. FML

So it matters what they think? Or matters that it's your name (and not theirs) on the pay stub?

So you make more money in less time. Your family is clueless about your career choices (as most families are) and your devastated, gotcha.

Their opinion doesn't matter. It sounds like a case of jealousy. My family actively tried to sabotage me when I worked from home as an interpreter because "I wasn't really working". Since I was night shift ( calls were transferred to my home) I worked from 11pm to 8am and overtime whenever it was offered. They would routinely call or stop by at noon or 2 pm and wake me up and them comment on how lazy it was to sleep all day. I started calling all warned parties at midnight and 2 am and asking them why they were being lazy and sleeping all night. I was a consultant for the police so their complaints didn't get too far.

To the people saying the family's opinion doesn't matter- they're family. Their opinion does, unfortunately, matter in that they have leverage to impact OP's emotions through their harassment.
