Today, a customer gave me the dirtiest look ever and muttered, "Goody two-shoes prick" after I asked if he'd like to donate a few cents to charity. FML

Sounds like someone needed coal in their stocking

Obviously not in the holiday spirit ... Love the name, should have used that in your answer to him.

and you wouldn't believe how many people think we're asking as a personal attack on them.

As someone who works as a cashier I can say that 23 is completely right and it is a part of our job but people get so offended if they have to give any of their money away that they weren't originally planning on spending.

OP would have had no qualms with the customer if he had just said "no thank you," as I hope you would do too in this situation.

when someone asks, you can say "no thank you" without being a prick.

It's 50 cents really not that had to hand over two quarters and then write down your name

A shop I go to just asks on default, and usually bit is a few cents so I say yes and I don't get my 50 cents worth of change. Is that 50 cents really that much and important to you?

@6 To be fair, that whole foods guy was a ****.

Perhaps op asked the customer to speak into the voice decoder to confirm he's not donating any money to the hungry kids.

Ahhhh this is the best time of the year for retail workers

FHL for having such a shitty bitter life that he couldn't just say "no thanks." Don't let people like that **** up your day OP.

Oh no, that's terrible! I hope you're recovering from such a horrible response and can keep positive.
