Long goodbye

Today, I got a call from a potential employer. They spent five minutes explaining job duties and I listened with anticipation. Then they spent five minutes explaining why I wasn't the right person for the job. FML

It was nice of them to deliver such a personal rejection, I mostly just get automated letters or nothing at all. But maybe this was a bit over the top..

Take their feedback and adjust your presentation and resume for future applications to similar jobs. Drop them a letter thanking them for the frank assessment and advise them you are are making the changes they suggested and you hope they will reconsider you in the future That type of initiative could get you reconsidered later,if the person they hired doesn't complete the probationary period, or considered for other openings later Management looks for people that can reflect, learn and adapt Good luck with your search, you got passed the screening of resumes to the interview stage, so you are on the right track

Sorry, OP! I'm not sure why'd they call you for that reason... But don't worry, there's plenty of other jobs out there!

They called for OP's benefit. OP can fix or improve her application and adjust accordingly for a better opportunity.

^exactly. I'd prefer an employer decline me formally and give me such a detailed explanation as to why. Use it as a form of self improvement. It's better than getting no call at, which is the worst.

Indeed. It's almost normal to get nothing if you apply for a job. It's ridiculous

This is one of those rare cases where doing the right thing politely is viewed as wrong. What if they just sent an email.. 'Today, I yot rejected from my dream job by email, fml' what if they didn't call or email? 'Today, it's been 8 years since I applied to my dream job and still no reply, fml' there's no winning with people.

Where one door closes opens another one :) keep your head up!

don't even worry about it you got this

What a waste of time. You can do better OP

Fyl Op, that was five minutes of time you could have used for better things, like applying for other jobs.

Job hunting is rough. Keep trying, I'm sure you'll get something. :)

They could have just told you so at the beginning.. Way to be jerks, you can find a better job OP =)

The worst thing is - this happens all the time. That sucks OP, and I hope you fair much better in finding a job in the future.

I'm taking this down as a mental note for future reference
