Today, after visiting friends for the weekend, I took the wrong train home. It was going in completely the opposite direction. I've now missed the last train back, will miss work tomorrow and have just been asked to vacate the train station. I'm 120 miles from home. FML

I was watching a tv series on my tablet...after one episode (45 minutes) I looked on Google maps to see how far I had got and that's when I realised! It was a cross country train and the next station was 60 miles from where I got on the train. A place called Darlington. If I had stayed on the train all the way I would have ended up on Edinburgh!

The most they could do is organize a cab. But if the trains have already stopped running there may not be anyone manning the station.

Trust me as a New Yorker train stations can be pretty confusing especially if you're not in that area constantly

I don't know about New York but here in Australia it's really hard to go the wrong way by 120 miles unless you're really stupid. But Op is in Nottingham wherever that is.

Nottingham is in England, the trains and transport system here isn't very complex. OP should spend the night at a hotel, go back to the station and ask a worker or steward for help and get back home safely. Mistake made but a lesson learned.

#10 is quite right. It is very hard to do this in UK. Especially since they tell you at least twice where the train is heading inc where it stops and its on the platform

I really have no clue how I made such a mistake. It said my train was at platform 12C. I got on the train at platform 12C! I'm still angry lol. But I'm home now :)

Maybe it was an express train and they did notice, but couldn't get off before that stop.
