**** off. I never even got a car of my own until I was able to buy myself one. Learn to be self-sufficient and buy yourself a newer car. You don't seem to realize they cost money. Ass.
Seventeen? NEW car?
you probably should've asked for a camera then, eh?
YDI for asking for a new car during a recession. Maybe they bought you a photography book so you could get a hobby instead of bitching at them all the time?
YDI, When i was 16 i was driving a 1991 dodge dynasty that had a broken radiator, slippy transmission, covered in rust, the muffler was only attached by a wire coat hanger, the heater and air were both broken and it didn't even have the handles where you could roll the window down, oh and the drivers side door wouldn't open(i would have to scoot over to the passenger door to get in and out). I dealt with it and actually felt lucky enough that my parents even LET me drive. I worked hard to pay for that car, and even though my mom and dad both drove luxury cars(daddy drove a lexus, mom drove a mercedes) I couldn't have been happier because it taught me about this little thing us adults call responsibility. I suggest you go get a job, save up your money and buy a new car if it is that important to you. Don't expect your parents to carry you through everything in life. Wasn't changing your diaper for 2-3 years, cleaning up your vomit when you were sick, sitting for hours helping you with your homework AND working their ass off to make sure you had food on your plate, clothes on your back and a roof over your head enough? Or do you really want to be a greedy little bizatch and continue hoping for a new car?
as i read some of the other comments posted i decided to add this little remark...... my parents made my brother, sister and myself all buy our own cars, even though they could afford to buy us each a brand new one every year. They also made us pay for own insurance, gas, and repairs. They did this to help us learn what it is like out there in the real world. our neighbors bought their kids each brand new cars, of their choice, on their 16th birthdays. Then brand new ones when they graduated high school. Me-I own my own business that is quite successful(just gave my parents a 7 day cruise for their anniversary) My sister-Pediatrician(helped me with the cruise for my parents) My brother-Mechanical Engineer(just bought my mom a brand new mustang for her birthday) Their daughter-living at home at the age of 27 because she can't hold a job for more than 6 months Their son-In jail for selling drugs Their other son-In jail for his 7th DUI(he's 19 by the way) Their other son-living at home at the age of 23, dropped out of college when he was 19 because he said he had a 'social phobia' which he confessed to my brother was just code for 'i am to lazy to leave my house' Just something to ponder....
booohooohooo im a spoiled brat and i didnt get what i want boohoo!!!! thats all i heard when i read this i mean come on this rates up there with the guy who complained about wrecking his porch and his school friends seeing him bring it in to the garage, on the duchbag-complaining-about-things-no-one-gives-a-****-about scale.
I don't see why most of the commenters here are calling the OP a spoiled brat. It's his birthday. He can ask for whatever he wants. Hell, he could have asked for a unicorn or a space shuttle. If you ask for something, hey, you might get it. MIGHT. Of course, with something like a car, it's very unlikely, especially because of his age and the current economy. Even when you ask for something that's really expensive and you know you're not likely to get it, it's natural to feel disappointed when you don't get it. OP, while this doesn't really seem like too big an FML in my book, you certainly don't deserve to be called a spoiled brat. Happy birthday.
wen i was 14 i started working at a grocery store to save money to buy a car for wen i turned 16... grow up and get a job. youre 17

Wahhhhhh. So let me guess, your parents have already bought you a car last year and you want another one? Do you really think money grows on trees? Buy your own car, mooch.
You sound spoilt. You're 17 and own a car, you should be happy enough.
