Today, I received a big scholarship. I was ecstatic, until I looked up the cost of tuition at that university. I still need $120K. FML

rhymehoardhh tells us more.

I submitted this FML because it felt like that moment when Miss Colombia had her crown stripped from her after two minutes, due to misjudging that the bulk of my tuition would be paid. However, I quickly got over it because yes, this was from a private university and there are many other options. Although this university is one of the top in my intended field, I will likely be attending a local state university at a fraction of the cost instead, cause it's just not worth it. Thank you so much for all your advice!

Time to pull up the student loan applications, or see if you qualify for need based financial aid. University in the US is expensive. Expect to pay around $200,000 for a four year private university. It is cheaper for state schools. It is great that you have a partial scholarship. I am 4 years out from medical school and in my residency training, and I have more than $287,000 in student loans to pay back ...

Yup, college is expensive OP. Keep looking for scholarships though, it's helped me lessen the cost of tuition. Best of luck at university OP! :)

I'm thinking total. Never heard of an institute being in the 100k range per year.

it could be either one. some big named schools, state or private, can cost 100K a year. If you're doing medical or dental or anything, the cost is astronomical

George Washington Univ is like 45k+ a year

My alma had a COA of 72K in my senior year and that was 2 years ago >.>

Hey at least it's better than nothing! At least OP got a slight head start in getting college paid off. But idk how you Americans do it. Tuition is so high over there.

Hopefully the field you're going into is a well paying one, haha. My friend did two years of college in high school, was accepted into an accelerated bs/md program and finished her MD at 22. Now she's in a residency program at one of the best hospitals in the country. All for well under 100k.

Fun Fact: It's cheaper to buy an island than attend four years of college

Ouch, #3. But I guess the tradeoff is if you love your field the tradeoff is worth while.

Looking at that number makes me want to move to a place like norway, they have free college there right?

America is such a corrupt system; only the rich can get the good jobs and become richer.

glad I went to a trade school, much cheaper

Go to a public college for core classes then transfer; you'll save a lot..

There are a lot of grants out there for some of the most random things. Don't stop applying! Do a little research about grants and scholarships and you'll see there are plenty to apply for. Best of luck, OP!
