Well, you've been presented a very interesting test subject. Look back to their behaviour, think about their reactions, and use this knowledge to have an idea of how ordinary, average people will react to your recommendations as a doctor. Think of the approach used by your brother, and try to find a better way to make people listen to your advices. It's most likely simply a question of the vocabulary used, or of the intonations while making the recommendations. Or it is really, as was previously suggested, because your parents don't respect your knowledge as a doctor-to-be, and believe that they know better than you.

Oddly enough, doctors make more money from the patients that DON'T listen. The ones that take the doctor's advice seriously don't come back much. OP, with your poor skills of persuasion, you should be a very successful doc:)
