To which I would have replied "Awesome. I hope it works out well." Since people eat and remember nice things about the deceased at funerals to make themselves feel better in order to deal with the sadness of the passing, it's very important that the party is as fun as possible.
Just quickly say, "I'm sorry to hear that ma'am."
However it sounds like the people who replied never actually been to a funeral. Afterwards they usually have a small gathering of people. They usually serve stuff like sandwhich and stuff and people talk, then they leave. It's not a "pig out" as suggested by some people. Think: sad party.
