Today, I had a double wedding with my sister. My mother, being as encouraging as she always is, told us that statistics say one of our marriages will end in divorce. She then explained she thinks it'll be mine because I'm "a self-absorbed bitch." FML

Sometimes parents know though seeing they spent a lot of time around their daughters. So it's FML if OPs mother is a bitch in general (always negative) or a YDI because maybe your mother is on to something. Best way to tell if you're self-absorbed is if you're unwilling to compromise with your husband, won't do anything that he wants to do but you don't (i.e. compromise) or you expect things that you yourself wouldn't feel the need to give to other people (love, compassion, money, etc).

Well, your mother could be wrong,OP. She is right in the sense that 1 in 2 marriages end in divorce but it might not be yours AND your sister's OR they both could end in divorce. Let me explain: Let's say there is A (OP's marriage), B (OP's sister's marriage), C and D (some random girl's marriage). C and D could end in divorce, leaving A and B to continue. Or A and B could end in divorce, leaving C and D to continue. OR A/B and C/D could end leaving A/B and C/D to continue. There are loads of possibilities.
