Today, early in the morning, I went to the store for a few things. The doors wide open, I gather my stuff and go to pay when a raging security guard hauls ass my way. He starts barking and tells me I need to leave or he can have me arrested. Apparently, the store wasn't open for another hour. FML

I think it could have been an easy mistake to make. I don't usually check the hours of operation signs when I go to a business, I try the door, and if it's locked I check what time they open. Many businesses have all of their lights on and are scurrying around stocking before open, but they normally do not leave the doors unlocked. I will say that the security guard was just doing his job, regardless of his seemingly frightening tactics. Still FYL op.

I'm sorry, but just because the doors were open doesn't mean you have full access to the place. I'm sure, if you were paying attention, that you would've seen the telltale signs of the store not being open. Sure, confrontation can be terrifying, but how could you not notice the lack of other customers? Or perhaps that there were no cashiers or sales associates rip-roaring and ready to serve you with a condescending smile? The security guard was doing his job, whether you agree with that or not. Lesson learned, I guess.

I agree. I hate FMLs like this because they always try to make someone look like an asshole just for doing their job. You weren't supposed to be there. Their job is to watch the store. They are security. So you making them seem like the biggest asshole in the world is very unfair.

I don't know if you've ever worked in a store before, but usually, before the store is opened, there are STILL people in there. Workers restocking shelves, checking change amounts in registers, preparing for when the store does open. The problem here is, THEIR ******* DOOR WAS WIDE OPEN. They're not open? keep the doors locked and closed. There's a problem with the door? put a ******* sign out that says there's a problem.

While the security guard was doing his job it isn't your job to properly lock the doors so customers can't get in and yes, I have worked retail for many years. If we forgot to lock the doors it was our fault.

As a security guard he should have noticed that the doors were wide open and closed them and then understood how someone could've wandered in and politely asked them to leave.
