Are the lectures recorded? If so, reference the recording to the professor, and I'm sure he'll drop the question from the final exam score. Everyone in class will thank you!
A Levels exams are administered by private boards (much like SATs are administered by CollegeBoard). There is nothing OP's teacher can do. :')
If the person teaching you is not the person writing the test, always double check. Usually the information about the exams should be publicly available on the website of the board writing the test. I hope you still managed to get a good grade.
