Suspicious minds

Today, my college instructor told me I hadn't actually failed a big exam as he originally said. It turns out he'd mixed me up with another student. Now thanks to the power of gossip, half my class thinks I slept with him so he'd switch my grade with the other student's. FML

It's college, who cares what some random people think? I can get why it would bother you, but anyone who thinks something like that is not worth your time - don't let them have any control over you or your emotions.

That's why you always ask for the exam back. 1. To learn from your wrong answers 2. Because teachers mess up a lot more than most people realize with grades and holding on to proof is important. My teacher just messed up my final grade which got me a .11 lower in my GPA till I proved to the dean his mistake, I hold onto all homework and tests for this exact reason.

And the other half knows that it's the truth. Come on, OP, you don't have to lie to us ...

It's in the instructor's interest to clear OP anyway. Rumours like that can get people fired so it would be rather foolish to let a rumour like that persist.

agreed, always keep any paperwork, sure you will probably have to get multiple folders but organization and proof is always worth it.

What does it matter what the rumor mill spits out? In 48 hours there will be a different rumor that will take the world by storm and no one will remember yours.

OP's situation reminded me of the same movie easy A!

Not even close. OP isn't pretending to be a ****.

Ask if he can return the exams to the class. I know it may seems like an overreaction, but depending on the size of your school, rumors can evolve and eventually have an impact. I came close to losing my stipend for grad school at one point, because of a similar rumor, that somehow ended up with people saying I was a stripper. Part of getting the stipend was a clause that we're not supposed to have outside employment. It's usually not enforced, unless they don't like your job (but, not a stripper, so didn't lose stipend).

The power of gossip, or how all of the students in town think i sleep with my 15 years old brother. Just because we get along and apparently as siblings, we are supposed to fight all the time. No matter what you do, if students saw it you might end up hearing crazy, stupid stories about yourself anyway. I hope they don't twist it even more OP !

This just tells you how much people just want to gossip. Wouldn't the teacher just change your grade instead of another students, if you slept with him? I bet the other student started the rumor.
