Today, I went to a family reunion with my brother and my mother. She spent quite a while giving a glowing introduction for my brother to one of her cousins. Then, just before walking off, she jerked a thumb in my direction and said, "Oh, yeah, and that's his sister." FML

meh, who gives a shit what your parents think of you, just try to make yourself be happy and proud of your own achievements even if they're not up to someone else's standards!!

My mom does that too :/ my brother is a Marine and she introduces him proudly. I'm on my way to get my PhD and I still get an intro just like that :/

The thing is, if there's something to talk about, it will be mentioned. I'm not sure what all your brother has done to get that much attention but it's clearly enough to be recognized. If you haven't done a whole lot since the last family reunion, there might not be a lot to talk about. I'm not saying do something crazy to get your mother's attention, I'm just offering my outsider's view on the situation.

Except just being introduced like that sounds like they've never met them other wise they'd know who his sister is.

If you only have family reunions every 5 or 10 years kids could change beyond recognition.

Except they probably haven't ever met, hence "introduction".

Fyl, Op. That was bitchy of her, but hopefully unintentional. Nonetheless, that sucks. Your day will come.

Favoritism is evident in some families, but you just need to hold your head high and be proud of who you are!
