Let's go for a walk

Today, my friend and I were getting picked up by his dad after a carnival. As I put my stuff in the back of the car and shut the door to walk around to get in the other side, his dad drove off, thinking I was in the car, leaving me to walk up their hill. It was midnight and I ended up lost. FML

How does the friend not say anything? And why did you start walking off instead of staying in the same place. Once they realize that you're gone I'm sure they would go back to the carnival.

Considering it was midnight his friend might have closed his eyes to go to sleep right away in the car, and to add to that he was probably in the front seat, because if the dad assumed OP had gotten on one side in the back, but OP was really going for the other side in the back, then it's likely that both seats in the back were still available, meaning OP's friend must have taken the front seat. Being in the front seat it's understandable that he wouldn't have noticed OP not being in the car.

He was leaving a carnival, even if he was the last guest there, there would have been staff around, unless they were there well past closing.

I don't know about anybody else, but I haven't memorized a phone number (except my own) in at least a decade. Even if I borrowed a stranger's phone, I wouldn't even know what number to call.

Well #26, OP could always dial 911. Also, pro tip: Is always good to have a couple of numbers memorized for emergencies anyways.

#32, when OP would call the police, he would have to clarify that his situation is not an emergency, but that he is lost and it is midnight. I've had to call the police once before for something similar and as long as you clarify that it's not an absolute emergency, they are more than happy to help.

#35, no you don't call 9-1-1 unless it's an emergency. Google your local police non-emergency number. You can be arrested for misuse of 9-1-1. And being lost isn't even sort of an emergency.

About halfway up the hill the OP notice something strange at the top of the hill but he continued on. What he didn't know is that up that was a different dimension. A dimension known simply as the twilight zone.
