Today, I found out my car needs an oil change. I had to listen the warning alert beep for over 200 miles. FML
I agree, your life sucks 24 742
You deserved it 9 672

needagoodlaugh tells us more.

The car has a computer system that tells you the problem. It needed an oil change and it keeps beeping until you do it. Considering it just came on yesterday it was safe to drive home without getting it changed.

200 miles without checking the source of the noise, or resolving the problem? You didn't pull over? You probably don't pull out either. Since you don't listen the warning signs parenthood is sneaking up on you faster than you expect.

You couldn't change it anywhere along those 200 miles?

let's hope you made a catchy beat to the beep on that long ride then!

I check it every hundred or so just to be sure

What? You check your oil after driving 100 miles? Road trips with you would really suck.

Just go along with it and start beatboxing.

Assuming this happened on Easter, nothing was probably open

Is it only in the uk where people are capable of checking and changing their own oil?

59: it's possible they needed to go buy the oil to change it.

#59, that was pretty rude don't you think? I live in the US and I change my own oil.

Resetting the oil life timer could have saved your sanity. Them could have changed it the next day.

Only on fml can someone turn this story into accidental pregnancy. You ask questions, then answer them to yourself, and go with your internal dialogue.

Free association at its finest. It was a little early in the morning when I posted this so I wasn't at my best otherwise I probably would've been far more sarcastic

Just FYI, the computerized system can be reset. The system does not know if the filter is old or new, it calculates that the filter needs replacement based on the miles travelled since the last time it was reset.

I was sure the author knew what it meant. At least he explained.

why would you even publish this on here? moron im happy you had to listen to that

Wow! How the hell do you drive that far and not look at it! I hope you haven't caused too much damage op!

It's an oil change. I assure you they didn't cause any damage.

As long as there was oil in the car, OP will be perfectly fine.

#32, not neccessarily. Hot, black oil can cause damage.

All oil is hot. Most oils nowadays clean your engine as well. And all of that gunk coming from inside of the engine is swept up by the oil...thus making it a darker color. Diesel oil is always black as well.

They didn't run out of oil ... It just wasn't totally clean. Won't ruin your car THAT fast.

Maybe you shouldn't have just driven those 200 miles while it was beeping? Maybe you could have got it changed along the way? Maybe you could have got it changed regularly like you're supposed to so this doesn't happen? As the daughter of a mechanic, most people really don't look after their cars very well...

poppunkette 22

Oh I know what you mean and I work with cars some people shouldn't own cars!

As a mechanic? 200 miles is not that big of a deal. chances are, OP was traveling and didn't want to get work done somewhere they didn't know or trust.

200 miles is no big deal execpt that if a warning is going off he's most likely gone quite a bit past the recommended oil change interval.

Nowhere was open on Easter and I do take my car in regularly. I actually already had an appointment for this coming weekend, it just went off early this time.

are you sure you won't need a new engine now?

That's not really how that works...unless you're an idiot and drive it for like five years on the same oil and your engine finally gives up and seizes.

this isn't that bad of an issue. running out of oil and throwing a rod would be much worse. I think the FML was more about the annoying beeping sound going off for a 200 mile drive. I would've lost my mind. maybe drown out the sound with music??

I know absolutely nothing about cars, but perhaps you should have found a mechanic?

You drive thousands of miles on a single oil change an extra 200 miles is nothing this shouldn't be an fml, if it was the change oil reminder than that's no big deal but if it's the low oil pressure light then his car is probably ruined
