Today, I gave a presentation to my college class about life with Tourette syndrome. I only got 3 minutes into it before my asswipe classmates started yelling stuff like "Shit!", "Cock!", and "Bob Saget!" I gave up and went back to my seat in tears as our bored instructor said "Next." FML

I would imagine that college students would have the maturity level to act like adults for a small portion of their life. But i guess some people can't. Sorry to hear Op. Some people still act like 7th graders even when they're adults and its a tad stupid to put it frankly

I believe it has something to do with a fake Internet series involving a character that has a lot of rage issues as well as Tourette's syndrome.

Look up "Tourettes Guy" on youtube. I guess that and southpark have given a poor representation of what Tourettes is. That being said Tourettes Guy is hilarious and is worth looking up.

She should have mixed that into her presentation. Maybe the results might have been different.

...why is 14 downvoted? What he says is true unless you're stupid enough to believe that...

93, it was down voted because it was wrong.

It's what the Tourettes Guy on YouTube says all the time.

That's awful! Next time you should wear earplugs and just talk. Oh, and kick them to death.

Or instead, he can slap the jerks who yelled those things and say he couldn't control his movements because of his Tourette's :)

Wow that's really insensitive of them. Sorry they're that stupid, maybe try and look into different support groups for more understanding people?

It's more than insensitive. It's more like harassment. Harassment that is most certainly unwanted by OP. I have no understanding as to why OP's peers would think it's ok to humiliate someone and make them cry. I've even less understanding as to why the tutor would allow that to happen.

I agree with you miss, it's terrible to treat someone that way, ESPECIALLY if they have some kind of disability or impairment. My first thought was just more towards there possibly being groups around the area that would be more understanding and helpful for the OP.

She wasn't looking for a support group. It was just a presentation for class for a grade. Sadly the instructor is an ass for letting this happen in college.

maybe OP wanted her classmates to understand her condition and why she might have outburst's once in a while.

I'm aware he and or she was not looking for a group I simply thought because of their reaction and having clearly been bothered maybe they could use more understanding people around them.

Because in American education facilities, it seems that despite their "zero tolerance policy", they don't give a shit about bullying and harassment unless violence breaks out such as a fight or in a worst case scenario, a school shooting, or if the victim commits suicide.

You expect too much of college students. Next you'll be expecting them to skip a kegger and study instead even though Betty Childs will be there and this will totally be their chance to hook with her and prove to the Alpha Betas that they're not just a bunch of nerds. Lambda Lambda Lambda for life man!

As someone in their 2nd year, despite knowing college life is "mostly" partying, I expected more from others students than from middle school students. So wrong.

I would also think the professor would have the decency to stop the asshole from continuing his ridicule. I've been in college for four years now, and every time that a student in class has done something like this they've been met with swift criticism from the professor (and classmates).

For some people, maturity doesn't grow with age.

They obviously have no respect. It's not like you can control it. You just keep doing you and raise your head high.

"Its not like they can stop" are you referring to the students or people with Tourette's?

#6 said "they have no respect" so obviously he was talking about OP's classmates.

Op just remember that there will always be an asshole out there who will want an audience to laugh at him even at anothers expense. Hold your head up high and next time don't give up because there's no point in being made fun of by a low life AND failing your presentation :) you're worth a lot more than that

Ignore them. They're just being stupid and probably influenced the professor. I'm sure you did great, don't take what they said to heart.
