Today, I met my brother's girlfriend. We got talking, and we got onto the subject of tattoos. I said how much I hated tramp stamps, and how they make girls look trashy. She said, "Like this?" and showed me hers. FML

It's not like you knew she had one and you were saying that to hurt her feelings. Unless you were, in which case you're a dick

You have nothing to apologize for. They only serve as a **** target, as far as I'm concerned.

Easy save: Wow! I would never had guessed. You don't look like the type at all.

Could have continued with , "Yeah like that one!" and finished your conversation. She might think you're stupid but atleast you weren't caught in an awkward situation.

"typo mistake" is redundant. Just for future reference

Hey AntiPrude, am I correct in assuming that Az is Atomicoz? If so, yes, RIP

He should have made sure that she didn't hav one before bashing them. This applies to almost everything!

I disagree. Your opinion shouldn't rely on another's view of something. If you don't like it, you don't like it. Who cares if they like them/have one/want one?

That's also true. I guess I try not to offend people...on occasion haha.

Many men look at tramp stamps as a sign this girl can be treated however they like.

I completely agree with #3. Tramp stamps are exactly that, and all too often the ladies who have them aren't exactly "reserved". I do have my own college story though. I was with a group of friends at the beach and some girls showed up. We started talking to them and just getting to know them when one of my friends told me, rather quietly, to look at one of the girl's backs. On her back she had a tramp stamp with her name that said "My name is Amanda"...and above that, upside down right below her neck, it read "My name is Amanda".... It was one of the weirdest things ever, and all I could think of was when she has a kid who wonders what it is. "Mommy what's that?" "Sweetie that's regret".

funny, I got one of my tattoos there because I'm uncomfortable with that part of my body and I get tattoos in places that I feel insecure about, so that I can be proud to show it off if I wanted to... I actually didn't know it was called a tramp stamp until after I got it and my mom told me! I got it when I was 22 and can count on one hand the the number of people who have even seen it, much less jizzed on it!! tattoos are art, some people don't think like that....

thank you 25! Not all tattoos on the lower back are tramp stamps. My husband and I got matching tattoos, well female and male versions of the same tattoo and he asked me to put it there because he found it sexy. I happen to love it and he has NEVER came on it. Shame on you OP for being g so judgmental

Surely it's the sexual exploits of the woman that would make her trashy and not the art on her body? I have a tattoo on my bum, I'm very much in love with my boyfriend and if he tried to **** on my tattoo I'd be pretty pissed off. My sex life and ink are not linked.

Why is it ok for someone to claim a woman's tattoo is trashy and to basically "****-shame" based on an art form, but no one thumbed down #3 for being pig-headed?

My friend has a butterfly on her lower back. People always make fun of her for it. However, she works as a lifeguard and swim instructor for a very religious organization in her town. She got the butterfly there so that it cannot be seen when she is working but can be shown off when she is off work. People have called her a **** for it, even though the butterfly is made up of tiny cursive names of her family members, who died when she was a little girl.

Tattoos are art. You don't get to judge a person for a tattoo they have. You judge a person by their actions, not their skin.

People judge art all the time though, that's almost the point of it. To get a message across or to symbolize something. More often than not a lower back tattoo on a girl symbolizes lack of a message altogether. If it's art, I can judge it.

It seems a lot of people beat me to this, but I'll go ahead and add my 2 cents. Both my sister and three of my cousins have tattoos on their lower backs. All of them are married, and none of them got their tattoo for the purpose of advertising their sexuality to anyone. It's mostly just a good spot so that people don't see it in your day to day life, but you can still show it off when you want. I never understood people who hate on others for a personal choice they make.

83, I don't see tattoos as art. I see them as an addition to your body and no one should criticize or make fun of someone for their tattoos, as an art or as a part of the body. I plan on getting tattoos and no one will change my mind and no one will make me regret any of them.

@79 in the same boat in a way, with your friend. My first tattoo was on my lower back, way way before 'tramp stamp' was ever a phrase to be heard or used. I chose that location simply because it fit the design, the size, and could be hidden easily when I did not want to show it off, like say, work and all those other things; and I could show it off when I chose to. When the term tramp stamp came into being many many years later, I was pissed off to be lumped into a category due to the location of my tattoo. Yes, there are those idiots that purposefully go with that saying and location when getting a tat and choose the design to fit that complete category to the fullest. then there is the rest that do not belong at all. Judge when you actually see the tattoo, the artwork and what it is saying, instead of lumping everyone into that stupid, stupid category.

No, I like tattoos. I'm fixin to get a bunch. Nor am I Christian, and I do get laid. (Any other assumptions?) Tramp stamps have a rep for that. Like Dave Chappelle said "Keep in mind ladies, you may not be a *****, but you are wearing a ****** uniform",

For me it really depends on what the tattoo is, not where it is. I met someone once who had a tattoo on her lower back that said "sweet n juicy". That is what I would call a tramp stamp, because of what it says, not just where she had it. If you want a tattoo on your back, upper or lower, that's your choice. What makes it trashy or not is what it looks likes/ means.

I met a chick who had a tattoo above her crotch saying "WET WET" it can't get any worse than that.

christ people it's just a stereotype. of you don't like it, don't submit yourself to that kind of judgement, plain and simple. really generalizations aren't that serious. get over it. Oh and I hate when people use the "someone I know" to back u their argument. everyone knows someone that has done -xyz-. it doesn't make your point logical.

yeah, its a stereotype and its stupid. people should be able to do whatever they want with themselves without others feeling the need to pass judgement.

if her opinion was negative on something socially unacceptable like skin colour or race I doubt you'd have the same response.

I would actually. I don't give a shit about skin colour or race. I much rather prefer to looks at a person's character and decency, than base my judgement of them according to what shade they are. You too should go awaaaaaayyyyyy!!!!!

It seems like she didn't understand what you were saying, so I think her tattoo is the least of her worries.

By definition, probably just above her bum.

Figures why I got thumbed down so much. I didn't know there was a definition. Thanks # 8.

I can feel the embarrassment, Sorry OP

*insert foot in mouth* kind of situation

Wasn't a smart move to assume she didn't have one. YDI

How about, OP didn't think that she would have one considering she is her brother's girlfriend? Plus that is OP's opinion, and I do believe people are entitled to their own opinion.

consider, while forming an opinion, whether it is a broad, negative generalization. if it is, sure, feel free to keep it and even voice it. but dont expect to meet no resistance.

probably a typical tribal with flowers tramp stamp, at the tattoo shop I work at pretty much every girl with a tramp stamp has it in tribal and flowers,

Important lesson learned... Always watch what you say around people you don't know :p
