Today, I told my girlfriend how the kids in elementary school gave me the nickname "dumpster". I was explaining why I'm sensitive sometimes. She just laughed and said "that's really funny". FML

While I myself suffer from sensitivity issues, it always helps to be able to laugh at yourself and your stories. When you own up to it, take hold of an insecurity like that, it takes away from the embarrassment or shame, and seems to be much easier in the long run. As for your girlfriend laughing at it, I'm sorry, I understand. Significant others shouldn't laugh when the other one opens up about something like that. Forgive, but don't forget. If she keeps doing this type of thing, she doesn't value(or can't value) your emotional state enough for you. Sorry for the ramble, sleep deprived a bit. Good luck!

Although that's obviously a painful memory for you, it might be beneficial to your mental health to find even a speck of humor or silver lining in it. Otherwise, recalling the story will cause you unnecessary pain. You've grown past that part of your life. Try to turn it into a lesson or a story you can laugh about yourself someday. When you find that, the pain will go away.

I'm curious as to how you got that nickname.
