Today, my boyfriend broke up with me via text, right after I finished cleaning his apartment and dropping off a bunch of booze I bought for a big party we were having. It turns out that big party was his "newly single" party. FML

That's awful, but there were signs. If he has his own apartment, he's an adult (physically, at least), which means he should have been cleaning it himself, and you cleaning it for him wasn't a very good idea, even if you had kind intentions. If I were you I would drive over and take back what you bought, or at the very least let everyone know what kind of person he really is. I'm sorry you got used like that. People can be cruel.

Jesus, this lady gets used and dumped and your response is to tell her she should have been expecting it? You ass. Helping significant others clean house is a normal interaction. Sorry this happened to you, OP. It sucks and it's going to be rough for awhile. Just keep reminding yourself that you were fine alone before him and you'll be fine after him. Nobody needs to be involved with a guy this friggin cruel and immature. You're golden, you don't need to hang out with tin.

Well if they were planning the party together, that might be why she was cleaning. I’m usually fine with the level of mess at my bf’s, but I have friends who prefer things neater and I have stuff out there I don’t want getting broken/stolen…so if we were throwing a party together, I’d see preparing the apartment and making things neater as part of the job and would be willing to help out. And as 58 said, many couples help each other clean. I'm at my boyfriend's so often, that I know part of the mess is mine. And even if not, I see it as a normal "gift" of help when I know he is in a stressful/busy time of his life :)

No #58, I'm not saying she should have expected it, I'm saying there were red flags that COULD have given away his true colors had she picked up on them prior to the present. Not that she SHOULD have picked up on them, or that she's STUPID for not seeing it, not at all. I don't expect that she was watching out for them in the first place. When did I say that? Would you please stop blowing things out of proportion? YOU ass.

She never established it was a routine. Maybe it was just that one time, specifically for the party. Not that it makes him any less of a dick, of course...

And take the booze back and trash the house a bit.

AND get black out wasted on YOUR BEER! I mean shit you not only slaved for his stupid ass but SUPPLIED his friends with drink! THAT makes you a rare find....jus sayin

This is a bad idea, and people will talk shit about you.

Just go back to the house and take all the alcohol you bought. It is yours as you said you bought it.

Trashing the place maybe. But OP has every right to take the beer. She paid and stated it was for a party "they" were throwing . That means it wasn't a gift and she can take it.

Take the alcohol back and have your own thank God the asshats gone party.

Take your stuff back. Everything. And maybe trash his room a little bit. That was a massive dick move.

hide fish all around his apartment, turn the heat to full blast, and take the booze with you

ah yes, let's torture poor little defenseless fishies for revenge

i wouldnt use fish, but open cans of tuna. so that way no live fishies are hurt, and i think old stale tuna would smell worse.

The best move is to open up a light switch and pour the tuna into the wall. :D

#32 and #63, there are no live fish used for this, why are you assuming it's real fish?!? You use fish bought from a supermarket or fishmonger... Y'know, dead fish.

This is exactly why my aunt told me to never clean a man's house unless I was married to him. I hope you took back what was yours. I would have printed out the texts and posted them around the place for people to find. Really make the party special.

I wouldn't post the pictures of the texts - what he did was a dick move but she shouldn't (completely) stoop to his level like that. I think this would be kind of immature. She should definitely take back the booze she bought and use it to throw her own party. I think this would be genius.

Why waste good paper, that's what social media sites are for.

I dunno but I think you should never give your whole self to anyone. Boundaries

Don't do that. Sure OP's ex was an asshat but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to open up to anther person and give yourself to them. My ex crushed me and I was terrified to be in another relationship but a year and half later I met the greatest guy on the planet and he treats me like a princess. We're both open to each other and I don't let what happened to me get in the way.

Yea take back the boo's. Throw your own newly single party.

that would be a pity party, and no one likes those
