Today, my fiancée broke up with me over text message while I was away for work. She later posted photos of her and her new boyfriend on Facebook, while still wearing my engagement ring. FML

Ye mate, she sounds like a total tosser. Get the ring back and stay as far away from the bitch as possible.

Have to say, it sounds a bit like a prank to me, if they didn't previously have issues. Of course, we don't know that...

Well if he dodged a bullet then that makes OP the matrix? :)

In my opinion the fiancée should be the one getting ready to dodge the bullet, I'd be getting some target practice if my fiancée did that.

Price of a ring: X thousand dollars. Freedom: priceless

15-- if she is that much of a bitch, I doubt she would give the ring back.

#67 - No, it'd make him either Neo or Agent Smith.

Bring up the receipt for the ring, and file that thing as stolen. If it's a really nice ring then that's plenty of time for them to post some pictures in prison visitation. "Aww the boy snuck me in a a dozen roses and a switch blade, he's the best (duck face)"

maybe we'll see OP on the people's court.

You're not alone. My fiancee did the same thing, sorta. She went to "visit" a friend out of town, and later claimed she wouldn't be coming back because she needed to find herself in a spiritual sense; this only meant she wanted to find herself in bed with another dude... A year later, now she continues to try to get back with me and fix things, but nah, i'm better off without her and i'm damn sure you are as well. Good luck!

#130 is right. Also, if it takes the cops to get the ring back, so be it. Sorry this happened OP...

WHATA HOE. Sorry about the misfortune OP.

This is NOT Twitter. Twitter is for twits. This place is for people who have the mental capacity to understand more than 140 characters at a time. Mostly.

I don't know doc. Some of us can't even manage that. *awkwardly raises hand*

The question is when is he getting the ring back?

He's not. It was given to her, therefore it is now her legal property

#87 - there are legal instances where she should not have to give it up, received on Christmas, Birthday..... Then would be legally a gift. There are other points to be made like the physical representation of a contract which is now broken. Thousands of dollars can go into these rings, and there is legal protection on both sides depending on how, when, and why it was given. That being said, common courtesy would dictate that he gets the ring back, not to mention why would the tosser of a fiancée want to keep the ring knowing what it symbolizes. Not to mention he paid for it. Why should she be able to cancel it and profit off of the ring? I got my first one back, it was over 5k, and I wasn't letting the ***** keep it.

That seems so arbitrary! Last time I checked, people could give each other gifts on days that weren't Christmas or their birthday... so that ruling just seems so strange.

Accepting an engagement ring Is a binding nonverbal contract. If one person breaks said contract then the ring goes back to the giver. Unless it was a Christmas, Valentines, Birthday, Etc., gift. Cheating bitches should not be allowed to keep an expensive ring they never bought.

104 - a ring is not a gift but like above said, part of a contract. On special days like birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, it would be both a gift and part if a contract.

Surely he should've questioned the ring by now.

I agree that he should have questioned the ring as well but 1) he either didn't care that she was engaged or 2) she just said that she bought it or it was a gift from someone ie, family. either way Shady that she is still wearing it. what a BITCH!

I'm sure they're cashing that ring while he's still away.

most likely he was around before the breakup

Some people like the thrill of chasing someone who is taken too. What ever the case I think he was well aware, just didn't care.

Collect that ring and tell her new boyfriend what he has gotten himself into, that or nut him and still get the ring.

#5, it doesn't work that way. An engagement ring is a gift that doesn't have to be returned. Some girls give it back for emotional reasons, but others realize they have a chunk of precious metal and gems worth a lot of money, so they forget the giver and keep it.

An engagement ring is only considered a gift if it's given on a special occasion I.e. Christmas, Valentine's day, birthday. If it was given on a normal day you definitely have a good chance of getting it back. Even better when infidelity is added. That's why lawyers will warn you to not give an engagement as a gift during events that are listed.

Actually #37 there is legal precedent that entitles him to get the ring back because she broke it off. I forget the name of the case but it was in the 1920s or 1930s, where the judge ordered the lady to give the ring back to the man. Of course assuming he wants to take it that far, which I probably wouldn't unless the ring was really expensive.

My ex's father bought the majority of the ring, so I gave it back hoping that my ex would sell it and pay back his dad. I really doubt he did... He likely went out and bought a ton of video games. But I don't have that guilt.

An engagement ring is a gift with a promise of intent to marry. No marriage means no gift.

Under Australian Law it's a conditional gift that must be returned. There's legal precedent in NSW. news.com.au/national/men-own-the-engagement-ring/story-e6frfkp9-1111113566094

Well I know here in America the courts will tell you that you're "shit outta luck." That's a quote from the judge after she told me I had no right to get my 5000$ ring back. In the future cover your ass and get paperwork signed and notarized. Have it state that she will return the ring if the marriage/engagement falls through.

In the US the law is on a state by state basis. Some require that it (or cash value) be returned, in others it might as well be the wild west.

Bitches be crazy. You're lucky to get out now!

Make sure you keep her as a friend. Because when you find a new girl, your ex is going to get jealous and want you back.

MermaidAnnariea 10

that is a horrible idea, and you are an idiot for thinking it isn't.

What are you, twelve? I second the declared stupidity of this idea.

7, why on Earth would he want her back? She is a heartless twat. Good riddance to her! OP, get that ring back, sell it and buy something nice for yourself.

Ya Dude that is not how it works in reality you stupid idiot!!!!

Even if she did want him back, he shouldn't take her back! He deserves better than her.

@26..... love that you called this kid a TWAT!!!! I was just telling my bestfriend lastnight that is one of the best words to call someone when the are acting like a complete ass wipe!!!

That is a awesome idea, 7. He should totally do to some innocent girl what his ex did.

sexy_llamas 4

Well he could keep her as a friend and let her get jealous and just not take her back. Just for some revenge.

BluEyedLightning 7

That's awful :( You're better off if she's like that.

although this is a hard time, think of the good side, you dodged a bullet. she seemed like loose cannon. go find someone worthwhile of your time. and ask for the ring back.
