Today, I finally got my fussy newborn back to sleep after the creaking of my chair woke her. I then crept two rooms over and opened a pack of chips, the crinkle of which woke her again. FML

That's crazy, my baby wasn't like that at all when she was a newborn. I would talk loudly and watch tv and do whatever around her while she slept. Never bothered her. Hopefully your baby grows out of that soon!

Geebus. Get that baby into a soundproof bubble for sleep time! I kid, of course. That really sucks, I hope she grows out of the fussy stage soon so you can all get some rest!

My son was like that and at his birthday party a week ago there was a little baby who slept straight through 20 screaming and playing kids. I was totally blown away and jealous of that parent

That's how my baby is, she falls asleep and stays asleep anywhere.

That sensitive hearing will be useful for her in the long run.

How so? You'd become one of those people who can't sleep when there's even the smallest distraction or you won't be able to focus without complete silence. I'd rather have poor hearing than hearing that's too sharp.

Try a sound machine in her room. Might be hard the first night until the baby is used to it, but it'll help your sanity the nights after that.

I agree. I found a lullaby on YouTube that my daughter liked and just played that on a loop when she first started in her crib, at 6 months. When she was in my bed, we had the window open and you can hear the waterfall from our backyard. Now, at 11 months, she only has 15 mins of bedtime music from her "violet" leap frog dog and she's out for the night (unless she's teething). Getting them used to noise at night can be very useful, especially if you plan on having another kid.

my mom just used a vacuum for me.. she would turn it on in my room and leave it.

Invest in some white noise or even just turn the vacuum cleaner on while getting bub to sleep. You don't need to creep around newborns, if you start that habit you'll regret it. Think about what sounds they heard in the womb, your heartbeat, digestion, voice and outside sounds its pretty noisy! White noise replicates that and helps baby sleep better. I had a baby shusher for my daughter best thing ever

I agree. I never tiptoed around for my babies. iIt's much less stressful if they can sleep through noises. I was able to do dishes and other chores without a worry. We kept a heartbeat bear on the crib at night too.

When I was a baby my mom never let it get quiet while we slept. Now I can sleep through basic sounds of everyday life with no worry. My cousin however...his mom never let others make a single sound while he slept as a baby. Now he can barely sleep at night because of cars passing and basic noises. He'd never be able to go to a bustling city.

Try putting her to sleep with really soft music playing and over time increase the volume little by little. After a couple of weeks she should hopefully be more sound tolerant.

I was always told to never be quiet for a sleeping baby or else the quietest of noises would wake them up. So when my little girl was a newborn I vacuumed, did dishes, cooked, etc. Now she's almost 2 and can sleep through anything. Good luck!

It might be helpful to start using some sort of background noise or pleasant sound as the start of her bedtime routine. Even a CD of instrumental music would work. Please try it...
