Today, I walked in on my son flopping around on the floor with a blanket wrapped around his legs. Apparently at age 22, he'd rather pretend to be a mermaid than go out and get a damn job. FML

Not gonna lie, I have similar priorities.

Maybe he can get a job at Sea World?

They'll love someone who really gets into character I'm sure!

Son: I can do an awesome mermaid. *flops on the floor* Boss: I don't see how this is going to help you sweep the parking lot...

While there are jobs for mermaid performers, I have a feeling he doesn't mean to pursue that.. Maybe you need to talk to him about trying to get a job?

I think most of us would rather be a mermaid

Maybe he can be a male model like Derek Zoolander ...

Im sorry this made me snort - I wish I had the confidence to wrap a blanket around legs and flop around like a mermaid....I work 7 days a week and just could be my exhaustion talking though

threaten to kick him out. i mean he's not even trying so.... it's the only punishment u can give

I wouldn't kick him out, but I'd start giving him bills to pay. Even if it's just the phone bill, it would be enough to get him off his ass and start job searching.

why not kick him out? He's 22, should have moved out at 18 or whenever he finished high school. Part of growing up is taking care of yourself..

I'm 19, my brother is 23. We both still live with our parents. But we help with bills, groceries, and have our own payments as well. Turning 18 doesn't mean you have to move out, it just means it's time to start acting like an adult. (Assuming you're even out of school at that point.)

#24 I'm 18, graduated high school less than a month ago and I live with my parents. I don't pay any bills yet but I do clean the house and I am looking for a job. I can't afford to move out and I moved to this state 3 years ago so I don't know anyone who could take me in. I would love to be on my own but my sister just moved out a year ago when she was 22. She had 2 jobs, was going to college, and cooked at home. It's very hard and I still have a lot to learn. My parents are nice and are teaching me how to be on my own before I go out on my own.

ok everyone seems to misunderstand. i don't have any issue with kids living with their parents. I understand that they may not be able to get a job. I do have an issue if the kid in question isn't even trying to get a job

24, If only it was that easy. My brother didn't move out until he was 30. I'm 27 and still haven't moved out either. I couldn't even begin to afford it. I have yet to find a job that pays enough to allow me to do so.

Great job and congrats wanting to learn. Its not too bad once you learn and get the hang of it :)

Is he living off your dime? Kick him out (unless he's still in college). No need to enable him. Although everyone gets to have a little free time and if he wants to be a mermaid on his down time, good for him. I guess?

As a parent, I'm sure you want your son to get his shit together but he needs you right now. What is Mermaid Man without Barnacle Boy? Don't be his dad. Be his sidekick.
