Today, in the senior class I teach, I asked my students who had traveled outside of the country, excluding Canada and Mexico. One student raised his hand and proudly stated, "Arizona". He wants to be a doctor. FML
I agree, your life sucks 34 014

He could still be a Love Doctor, or I heard drinking Dr. Pepper certifies you as a doctor.

You are so dumb, you are really dumb, for real.

I think he was probably joking.

That's just as bad as my cousins ex-boyfriend thinking that Virginia was another country...smh, and now this guy? AND he wants to be a doctor? This country needs some help for its future.

I see our future is in good hands. Make sure to get on his good side, never know if you're gonna be his patient.

A lot of the med school students I know are terrifyingly immature with bad ethical practices. I wouldn't trust them the slightest when they graduate.

BIGBOY4rmAHM 19

Omg. This statement put me in a good mood for the rest of the day! Lmao

Just resd older fml that said, Today, I heard two of my students having a conversation. One asked what state Arizona was in, and the other replied Canada. I teach sixth grade social studies and they weren't joking. FML

Last time I checked you didn't need to know states and countries to be a doctor

He's going to be in Doctor's without borders, by principle he must be blind to borders.

Maybe be thought you said the opposite and thought you meant in america

Next time just tell em outside of North America, States and Countries are all the same thing ya know.

Imagine how safe you would feel if he starts telling you how he's travelled the world (Arizona) right before surgery :D

Doctors don't need to know geography.

Yea but how would you feel if someone who potentially has your life in their hands can't even tell if they have been outside their own country?

21, I think he was meaning that he wasn't very smart

That kid is so stupid! The professor already said excluding Canada and Mexico, and since Arizona is in Canada, that student was clearly not listening.

RedPillSucks 31

@21 if he can't manage the focus to memorize simple geography, just think how great he'll be at memorizing biological geography. I'd hate to go in to have my appendix removed and leave the hospital with my appendix intact, but minus a kidney.

Ha 50 watch some noobs comment on what you said not detecting the sarcasm in it.

FMLsOhilarious 6

#50 yeah, and you have room to talk. Everybody knows Arizona is in Mexico, not Canada. Gosh, what do people learn in school these days :p

livingdaLife 5

Everyone is a genius. But if u judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.. One doesnt need to know where Arizona is to become a doctor. And.. Unless your name is Google, stop acting like you know everything. =)

#81 Knowing what country you're in hardly qualifies you for Mensa.

livingdaLife 5

Just saying, don't need to know Arizona to be a doctor, don't need to know a pancreas to be an engineer.

decidedlyvague 11

"Judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree"? The ****? is that a thing? I don't believe it's a thing.

It's an Einstein quote. I just keep thinking how different this post would be if we replaced Arizona with Georgia..

lmngrl889 14

don't make fun of people....I'm sure there are things all of you wish you were better at!

Arizona isnt even on the edge of the country... How...?

You are so dumb, you are really dumb, for real.

No I think hes expressing his confusion as to how the child could even think that he left USA, I dont think he believes Arizona to be a separate nation. "He" being the commenter

In reply to #3 and #11 I don't live in NA or ever visited NA but doesn't the southern part of Arizona border another country? Mexico to be precise - but I have not been taught any of this.

mishkaroni 15

That still doesn't make sense of the commentator's post. Seems they know just about as much geography...seeing as Arizona borders Mexico...

Probably, I live in Australia so obviously I don't know, thats just how I interpreted it :)

Here you in australia you actually have to go over seas to get to another country

je_suis_fml 11

18- you don't have to be "taught" to be in the know. A quick reference to Google shall suffice during these technological times. Here LMGTFY...

In Missouri people have a joke like this but it's usually Arkansas being the other country.

AllThatHit 7

actually Arizona is on the edge of the nation

Bently24 6

Uh look at a map dumbass. Arizona clearly borders Mexico...which is out of the country.

Hopefully you don't plan on being a doctor too...

HerpYourDerp 7

I wonder what would happen if he actually did become a doctor... Oh, I pity his future patients.

Knowing my luck, I'd be the patient...

39, are you ok, you look like you're in pain in your profile picture

dakotadk 5

She's being operated on by OP's student.

It's okay, he'll still make more money.

You really don't need to know geography to operate on someone as long as you actually know what you are doing

107: but you do need common sense at the very least.

How does common sense help you know geography? Geography is just about memorizing a bunch of information that for many people would be useless.

decidedlyvague 11

What if you're operating on the world?

Victoire_W 0

Ever consider he was messing around?

Victoire_W 0

He was being an idiot more like it. He was trying to be smart.

JustinThunder 8

Well school needs some amusement from time to time!

Miq94 0

Doubt he was joking. Americas education system, especially when it comes to geography is frighteningly bad.

People tend to be stupid no matter what country they come from.

yadisingh 5

I thought you were Ginny Weasley when I glance over your comment. :p

alazyguy 9

Well, at least he did it proudly.

JustinThunder 8

Yeah, but that just makes it seem like he was joking. Nice picture by the way.

This should be a **** his life for being stupid, or maybe he was joking but has a great poker face.

I guess Geography is not his strong point. Let's hope he's better at biology and chemistry then.

I am hopeless at Geography, but I know/recognise the names of most US states, and I live in the UK (I don't know where most of the UK counties are precisely but we tend to talk about places being "near Carlisle" or "a few miles south of Liverpool" rather than "in Cumbria/Lancashire" like Americans would do with states). This is beyond hopeless.

We're talking about a guy who cannot tell what constitutes the country he lives in and what constitutes countries he does not live in. Or a guy who is the master of deadpan comedy.

Well, Arizona is so out there it can feel like another country by its public policies.

What does geography have to do with the healing arts?

Presumably the good doctor would have to know how to get to the hospita and so on. Also, this is general knowledge. Kinda makes one look like a dumbarse. Of course, he could be one of those guys who is thick at everything except one special talent...

Don't worry OP, you could have people who are more stupid in your class like me. I would've said "New York baby! Representing my country!"
