Today, when I went to pick my kid up from daycare, I found out that he had run away. The rest of my afternoon consisted of me screaming his name, looking for him. I then returned to the daycare center. He thought it would be funny if he hid in the trash. FML

Your kid was missing and the daycare staff didn't have enough sense to check the premises? The first thing you need to do is have a serious conversation with your son about inappropriate behavior. The second is to find a daycare that's actually capable of keeping track of your child. The third is to take legal action because they not only lost your child, but they did not take appropriate steps to locate the child or report him as missing to the authorities. I'm not a big fan of jumping on the lawsuit bandwagon, but these people obviously need to be investigated to determine if they're even capable of running such a 'business'.

I'm glad your child is safe. I say it's time to find a new daycare center. FYL.

I once hid in Whitney houston's drug stash, it took them weeks to find me.

I agree... but slap him hard. When kids are allowed to think crap like that is funny, it is time to stop caring about "the kid's feelings".

Haha, that wasn't necessarily what I was thinking, but yeah, I could understand that. I personally just find it awesome as to just how clever the little tyke is at such a young age. At least she can't complain that her son is stupid, you know? :)

Not necessarily. My son did the same thing on a regular basis when he was about 3. He grew out of it after about a year. Now, he's an angel. He still is the best in the house at hide-and-seek though.

recently switched my childs daycare as no-one could tell me how my son got the nasty bite mark on the back of his leg (thigh)... there were only 3 children in the room that session so clearly they weren't being watched :-/

I absolutely agree. the daycare should have known where he was, if he had run away they should have contacted the police and you immediately. you pay to have your child under the care and supervision of that daycare his safety is their responsibilty during that time.

That's one smart kid you have there!!!

Why is hiding from the one who feeds, clothes, and generally looks after you a smart thing to do?

9: you are very beautiful (not trying to stalk in anyway or be offensive)

39: I mean smart in an evil way. He knew they'll go crazy looking for him, he just had to hide well. 60:Thanks :) 65: How is it a trap again?!

Hahaha smart kid :) My brother did that when he was a lot younger as well, but he wasn't hiding in a trash can.

Yeah really! You can't just bring that up and not say where he was hiding!! The curiousity is killing me! ;-)

what? under the table? I used to hide in restaurants under the tables when I was little :)

The worst part is - the kid is 19 years old.

I 100% agree with this. I couldn't have said it better. Physical punishment wouldn't have been needed, crying and saying how much he "hurt mommy" would have actually worked better with me, if I was a little kid. Spanking would have just led to resentment and painful memories when I was just trying to 'have fun'.

Seriously!! not only did they not report him, but they didn't even bother to call the parents?! What kind of daycare is this?
