Today, I went on a blind date, and my best friend came along as emotional support. It was 20 minutes before she realised that my friend was in fact not her intended date. When I left a few minutes later they were both getting drinks and exchanging numbers. FML

If you're not emotionally ready to go one a date alone, you probably shouldn't be dating until you're comfortable. Bringing somebody to a date is really odd even if both parties agree. Your friend should have sat at another table to avoid confusion so I say YDI.

Third wheel as emotional support? Is that even a thing? I don't know why you would even agree to that.

No one should need emotional support for a date. If it’s that bad get counseling or a therapy pet. Pro tip. If you’re nervous set up a coffee date. It’s casual and typically shorter in length. But seriously stay off dating until you feel comfortable being alone with a stranger on a date.

Everyone summed up what I was going to say. You did this to yourself. Also they had chemistry and you didn't, you weren't exclusive, you where just meeting. Don't be bitter about it, move on and try again. Maybe try meeting someone online and talking till you're good and comfortable before meeting

Lesson learned. Grow balls to go on a date alone

Maybe you're not old/mature enough to go on a date if you need to bring emotional support on one.
