Today, I went to a restaurant and only brought $14 with me to eat. I ordered and ate my meal, then went to the counter to pay for it. I threw $2 into the tip jar then got my bill. My bill was $13.86. I had to reach into the tip jar and take my $2 back so I could pay for my meal. FML

Honestly, YDI because you need to pay more attention to the prices of what you're going to eat.

Lol why would you tip before you paid for your bill and second why would you tip at a fast food place .

Did you not look at the price of what you ordered? Seriously, when you look at a meal, see it's almost fourteen bucks with tax, you should not leave that two dollar tip. As much of a jerk as it makes you feel, it's better than not being able to fully pay for your meal. Like some others said, always tip afterwards. Also, why would you only bring fourteen dollars to a restaurant?

... and this is why they taught you math at school! remember in fifth grade when the teacher said "you have $14 and your meal costs $13.86, how much can you leave as tip?" YDI!

Just move to Australia so yo don't have to tip

To #3 the person never mentioned he was eating at a fast food restaurant so he HAD to tip!

you never *have* to tip, but it's customary. I typically tip more than 15% when I sit down at a restaurant where they bring you the food, but if I'm getting takeout or if it's fast food, then I don't see any reason to tip. I also tip extra for delivery, that's a little farther than just walking to a table :D

The Chipotle by my house has a tip jar, so I'm assuming it's a restaurant like that and not like Applebee's or something. Then again, he ordered, ate, then went back to the register and got his bill so I'm confused as to what kind of restaurant this is.

OUCH! poor waiters. i was a waiter for years as a young adult. it was not fun. bad tips,no tips, bad people, lack of people and most of all i think everyone who confronts a waiter has no sense (or very little) of empathy. if im going out to eat i understand that i need to pay for myself and the service im going to get.if i cant afford service then i cannot afford to eat.you live and learn; now you know.

that's why people tip after they've paid.

If you ever want to eat there again, go back when the same shift's working and let them know you're making up for stiffing them on a tip. Put the money in the jar and leave. They'll remember you in any case, whether positively or negatively is your choice.

you should have gone to McDonald's or Wendy's or BK in places like that, you can have a filling lunch from 7-10 dollars..but it's not very healthy

A chance to learn. What would you have done if the price had been higher than 14 bucks?

silly! you tip after you get the bill :P
