Just tell him the truth: the real Santa drowned because Global Warming caused the sea ice at the North Pole to melt, sinking his workshop and killing all the reindeer and elves, too. The planet will be uninhabitable in a few decades and everyone will perish except the chosen few who will escape, only to live for generations in cramped spaceships until they find another planet to inhabit, then ruin. Any more questions? I didn't think so.
*blink blink* *start crying hysterically*
Anyone else think that by the age of seven he should know Santa isn't real? My daughter is 8 and has known for awhile now. I wasn't even the one to break the news.
I totally agree, 37, my little sister has known for quite a while that Santa isn't real. I'd rather have her know the REAL meaning of Christmas, lol.
Some people really want their child to feel the Christmas "magic", but sometimes it can reach a point where your kid is at a disadvantage. My friend's brother was ridiculed in 6th grade for believing and he came back totally disillusioned with all the festivities because of it.
The world is difficult place to live. Life can be disappointing. You can either a) prepare children for this by debunking Santa/Tooth Fairy etc, so that you're not lying to them and they understand that presents are the product of their parents' hard work and sacrifice; or b) allow them to enjoy a harmless fantasy which brings a little magic to their world and lets them keep their sense of wonder for a little longer. They work it out for themselves anyway. I think believing in Santa comes to a natural end when you understand that magic and fairytales are make-believe.
Thanks! *Munches on cookie* So, you comment often?
I find your comment very coincidental in this situation... Han shot first!

This is a great time when the old, "The mall Santas are just Santa's helpers" would come in!
