Today, my AP government teacher moved our seats and of course, I was seated next to my ex who has harassed me ever since our breakup. When I asked the teacher after class if I could please have a seat change, she told me I would have to write a 3-page essay on why I made the request. FML

If you explain the situation and the teacher still doesn't make the change then go above them and go to an principal. There is no reason you should have to feel harassed in school

If your teacher won't help you then maybe go to a higher up, OP. Teacher's can be assholes for no reason. Or just write a damn good essay.

I am completely okay with this. If you want special treatment you should have to earn it. I think a 3 page essay is pretty fair price to break the rules. Think of it this way. If they move you because you then everyone wants to get moved. If it costs a 3 page essay the things you're willing to put up with increase. FYI the problem is yours not the teachers.

I hardly think that not being sat next to someone who has harassed you for nearly a year is "special treatment" or "breaking the rules". It's crossing the line to ask for an essay on a personal matter in a students life in my opinion. She's a government teacher, not a guidance counselor.

Write the essay, add lots and lots of detail about how awful your ex is and all the times they've harassed you. Exaggerate, make it sound so bad that she feels really bad and embarrassed for not just listening to "hey my ex is harassing me, please change my seat." Maybe include something about contacting a higher authority if she doesn't change your seat.

Easy enough. Tell the teacher why you want to move (if you haven't already). If they still want the essay, start with the date you broke up. Then talk about everything they've done in as much detail as you can. Include dates if you can. If they've been calling and texting you, print out your phone records and screenshots of texts. You can black out all the calls that weren't from them for privacy's sake. At the end of the essay, say that you have also forwarded this to the principal and guidance councillor. Their e-mails should be easy to find on your school's website. Make sure they'll be able to open the attached essay with whatever version of word is on your school's computers, and in the e-mail explain the conversation you had with your teacher before writing the essay.

Also, I think it's hillarious that everyone is assuming the ex is a guy. I assumed it was a girl :P

A harassing ex, that should fill up more than 3 pages. (Use slightly larger font, crank up the size, and if it's electronically submitted type words in the blank spaces and turn them white to blend in for the higher word count.)

Dude for once you actually have a good reason to write an essay. Three pages is an hour and a half tops.

Well, I mean, asking for a seat change because you don't like who you're sitting by is kind of elementary school-y. However, if you're being harassed, that's different, in which case I'd go above the teacher's head and talk to the principal or even the school counselor. You shouldn't have to be treated badly while trying to learn.
