Today, I went shopping for a nice outfit to wear for a job interview. A fake job interview. One that I just made up so my mother would get off my case about finding a job. I don't know which is sadder, the fact that I can't get a job, or that my mother actually believed me about the interview. FML

1- OP is obviously not looking for a job. And let's settle OP's confusion about which is sadder: The saddest part is that if you would put that effort into actually looking for a job then you wouldn't be so pathetic.

Wow that's pathetic I feel bad for you

why fake a interview when maybe you can just enhance your resume and start handing it out so that maybe you can get a real interview?

Maybe she has tried that, and still can't get anywhere, so she decided to have a fake one just so her mum will get off her back a bit.

exactly this! why not take more time to just find a real job interview

19- looks like he is a chubby chaser... lolz.

if more chubbies were chased, there would be less Chubbies!

if he doesn't want a job then he would just tell his mum instead of buying a whole outfit for something that doesn't exist. but when op says "....I can't get a job" that kind of indicates that he wants one but he isn't getting an interview for a job.

why wouldnt she believe you. im sure shed love to see you on ur own instead of lurkung around her basement at 37 still doing nothing

you don't know which is sadder? let me help you out there. YOURS!

We all go through not being able to find a job. You can do it! :D

You sound pathetic. How about actually trying to get a job, the fact you are surprised your mom believes you have an interview implies you dont any interviews, which indicates you aren't trying.

It says "I can't get a job" in the fml which implies she's trying but no one is calling her back.

Or op is trying the "play CoD all day until work finds me" job hunting strategy that seems so popular these days.

It took me three years to find a job. I applied to thousands of places. I was putting out about 2-3 applications/resumes per day for all but two 3-month periods (I moved twice, and didn't want to find a job only to move away a month or two later) I only had three interviews in that time.

It could also depend on where the OP lives. I live in Southern California and yes there are hundreds of jobs hiring, but there are also tens of thousands of illegals and unemployed people trying to get by here as well. You really have to go above and beyond to get a job nowadays; it takes a bit more than just submitting a resume. After you submit a resume, call and ask if it's been looked at. If it has, send them a 'thank you' card, thanking them for consideration - whether you've gotten the interview or not. If you get the interview, DRESS PROFESSIONALLY - whether it is McDeezy or Del Taco or a law firm. It says something about your character. I've done all these things and have never not been accepted for the job I applied for.

#51 That's the strategy my ex was using. He eventually joined the Navy because he wasn't "able to find a job". Resumes just don't work anymore, I guess.

Yeah, I just added three trucks to my business, with a total of five new employees. I got over a thousand applications, mostly unqualified, and I didn't even read most of them. Everyone I hired took the time to either wait or make an appointment and speak to me in person. Two of them are the old school sort and showed up with work boots and a lunch pail but no resume. I put them to work that afternoon. Sometimes it's all attitude and appearance.
