I live in France and it should ring 12 times maximum.
Pretty sure this isn't just a France thing, they do it here in Australia
That must be on Sunday. I had the same thing during my vacation.
They on that reptilian time.
Why 24? Most places I've lived have a clocktower that chime (bells basically) every hour and chime the amount of the hour except from 11-6
Oh God... I used to live in a small French village called Courmangoux... it's in the middle of nowhere, even the locals get confused about where it is... and I lived literally next door to a church so I lived next to chiming bells on the hour every hour for eight years of my life. And yes, at certain times in the morning/evening (usually at 7 or 8 depending on the church) it rings for an insanely long time. After a time I got used to it so it didn't wake me up, but damn, I hated it so much at first... OP you have my deepest sympathy. The worst part is when you can't sleep and you hear the church bell announce that it's 3am... it's like an alarm clock that mocks you.
Earplugs are your best friends ?
They ring 24 times in the morning because it's a Catholic prayer :)
I've stayed in a place where they ring 43 times at 7AM.

I had the same problem in Italy.. On holy days they play songs every 15 mins.. Our house was directly beside the church too. Feel your pain OP.
Wait so if they rang every hour why didn't the ring at 2am bother you?
